Eleven students, a cooler, and a vial of testing solution

We do NOT certify anything, and we are NOT a certified laboratory. However, we use precise chemistry to do bleach testing. We use our own method: we researched, submitted publication, validated our methods using a chemical known as Leuco-crystal violet which turns into purple when bleach oxidizes. Combined with spectrophotometer, we can pinpoint the concentration of bleach.

How we got here

  • 2023

Group of high school students studied what is oxidation and reduction chemistry from high school. This led to researching on oxidation and reduction

  • 2024

Found couple chemicals that can do redox reaction: Methylene blue, Crystal violet, Malachite green, Brilliant green, Indigo blue, and more. Students chose crystal violet for the redox reaction purpose due to easily accessible, inexpensive, easy to handle, easy to transfer, and highly useful with oxidative reagent.

  • 2025

80% of the research was complete and this year was where students started to apply their knowledge in the real-world by helping neighbors with their swimming pool bleach concentration

  • 2026

Continue to help neighbors and communities. Submitted our work in a reputable high school journal and under revision
